Hi there!

Quarantine and COVID has taken a toll on everyone. For us we have our moments.. days when we want to kill each other or days when we cannot get enough of one and another. In midst of all this food and exercise have been our calming resources.

Running has been going well until the recent set back.. threw me out of commission for few days.

My daughter and I decided to kick off a sugar free July , I decided to start 2 days before. As usual using my at home spices and food to help me stay full and focused and stay away from 🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭.

Bucaneers Treasure Chest 10k- 2017

Its race day morning.. I am exhausted from the last couple days working late to get ready for my technology roadmap meeting. I had set the alarm for 5:15am preparing to leave the house by 5:45am.. after snoozing the alarm I woke up and got ready to make some breakfast. I am one of those people who can eat something 5 mins before a run and still be OK.

I get started to make my usual race staple "Dosa"

which is basically batter made with 4 part of rice and 1 part lentils.. perfect endurance meal.  I meet up a friend and we start driving together to the race course. We got to the parking lot after wading through the traffic to see the big "bucs" football flag waiting for us. It was almost 6:45 by the time we parked.. I started running towards the start line to get some warm up mileage in.. we walk up to the Jabil team waiting at the start line for a group picture.  I get asked to come back by 7:10 for the group picture ,I take off to get some more warm up.. I ran around the bucs stadium and was back in time for a group picture. With 20mins before the start , I get some quick strides and feel ready.

Startline is packed.. I see all the fast runners lined up few familiar faces, I am just focused on how I want to modify my race. It was like 80F and 100% humidity it was miserable.. will I still be able to hold my planned pace or do I need to modulate.. the horns blows and I get started on my run.. planing to hold 8mm flat through out.

Mile 1: Things are looking good I am holding a good pace .. look at my watch I am racing faster than 8min/mile. I pace adjusted and finished the mile at 7:55min/mile

Mile 2: 7:59:mm

Mile 3: 7:59mm

Mile 4: Sun is coming down now.. I am losing pace fast the course is now getting harder we are running on grassy pacthes 8:24mm

Mile 5: Now I am getting tired..the heat is getting me, pace is dropping. I stop to drink water at 5.7 miles. I remember the workout I did few weeks ago, coach dror had us run a 2400 around the track. I start picking up the pace now. 8:30mm

Mile 6: I am catching up with people that overtook me... remembering the workout counting the laps as if I was running on track. 8:04mm

I dash through the finishline running the last .2 at 7:37mm pace..

I finished the race at 50:22 placed 2nd in my age group.. was it my best prolly not. I just ran the course over coming the urge to give up at 5k mark. Catch up my breath and venture to find my friend.

Post race fuel:

I quickly made some brown rice, tandoori cauliflower and lenthil curry with raddish (sambhar) while the kids ate pizza.

cooked chicken curry in earthen pot for dinner and finished with brown rice.

it was a fun race .. I always love running for Jabil..and representing the team..
